We had a lovely time on our annual outing to Nostell Priory, a National Trust property near Wakefield, last Wednesday. The weather was kind to us and we had plenty of time to explore the grounds in the morning before we got together for lunch in the recently restored Orangery. We had booked an "Upstairs, Downstairs" tour which took us behind the scenes down into the cellars then up the female servants' stairs (90 of them - someone counted!) to see the attics where the servants slept - fascinating. There was still plenty of time to explore the main part of the house afterwards and just time to grab an ice cream before our return journey.

There were 5 correct entries for our Quiz and the draw was made at our meeting on Monday, 9th July. The winners were Nancy Muff in first place, Elaine Ward in second and Tony and Wendy Carlisle in third. Thank you to all those who bought the quiz, we hope you enjoyed the challenge! The answers are shown below: We had our annual get together this month with Bardsey cum Rigton WI and we had a lovely time meeting them all again. We provided a supper of Coronation Chicken with salads followed by fruit cake with Wensleydale cheese which gave us plenty of time for chatting! This was followed by our speaker, Tony Cleaver who gave us a hilarious talk entitled "From Karaoke to Cabaret" where he told us all about his experiences singing on the "stage". He soon had us all joining in with the well known songs. |
