Our 50th Anniversary Exhibition was a huge success, it was lovely to see so many people coming through the door. We were showcasing our "Record of Harden 2012" which was created to celebrate our 50th Anniversary but also on display were items made at our Craft Club, prizewinning items and lots of memorabilia. Everyone seemed very impressed. Refreshments and homemade cakes were also available. More photos in our Photo Gallery.

Nine of us had a lovely evening yesterday as guests of Steeton Flower Club. The demonstrator was Vanessa Wellock, she did some amazing designs and was full of helpful tips. As seems to be becoming the norm for one of us won an arrangement in the raffle; this time it was the turn of our President, Gaye - it's always been our Treasurer previously so it's about time someone else had a turn!! Well done, Gaye! I'll put some more photos in our Photo Gallery. We all thoroughly enjoyed our August outing to Browsholme Hall near Clitheroe in Lancashire. The weather was great, lunch in the Tithe Barn was delicious, the tour round the house was fascinating and strolling around the grounds in the afternoon in the sunshine was lovely. More photos in our Photo Gallery 2013. Another fascinating talk with slides last night from Robert Whitehead, guiding us along part two of Bradford's Millennium Way. The Millennium Way goes through such a diverse section of scenery and buildings; all with a different tale to tell.
We had a lovely meeting at Otley whose turn it was to host the Lower Wharfedale Group Meeting this year. The speaker was the actress Beatrice Kelly. The competition for the Tidyman Cup naturally had an 'acting' theme and we had to make a stage setting of a well known tv show. We chose to portray 'Call the Midwife' and are delighted to say that our entry was chosen as the winner. For more pictures have a look at our Photo gallery page. A RUMMAGE IN GRANNY'S DRAWERS. What a lovely meeting we had last night. Dale Keaton gave us a potted history of 150 years of ladies' underwear and brought along samples to pass round. I am so glad I wasn't around in the 19th century - the layers and layers of clothing that had to be put on before you actually got to the dress is unbelievable and as for the corsets ... well, how uncomfortable must they have been ... imagine being laced into something to try and get your waist down to 12" and what with all the bones as well it would be nigh impossible to bend over! A really fascinating insight into days gone by!! We finished off the evening with our usual cup of tea accompanied by some more of our delicious birthday cake left from our party in January. I think it's just about finished now! Next meeting is Pat Osborne returning to tell us about Lady Randy, Winston Churchill's mother. Seven of us went to see the Christopher Pratt exhibition at the Bradford Industrial Museum this morning. Although it was only a small exhibition it was really interesting and brought back many memories! We followed this by a lunch in Saltaire on the way back.
I've just added some more photos of our party - have a look at Photo Gallery 2013 We celebrated our 50th birthday last Monday with a party. Unfortunately because of the freezing temperatures several of our members weren't able to get there and they missed out on a really good celebration. We had nibbles, bubbly, quizzes, entertainment in the form of singing by some of the committee with a bit of drama thrown in! And a birthday party isn't complete without a cake (which was made and iced by two of our members) with candles which were blown out by two founding members of Harden WI - Jean and Janet. We then surprised them with a presentation to commemorate their 50 years membership. Plenty of photographs were taken and as soon as I get them I'll post them on the website.
