2012 is our 50th year and as part of our celebrations, we are inviting back some of our favourite speakers and a few who are new to us - hope you like our choice! All our monthly meetings are held at 7.30pm on the 2nd Monday of each month except this year Easter has got in our way in April and it will be the 3rd Monday.
ANNE LISTER and SHIBDEN HALL - Pat Osborne
If any of you saw the programme on TV about Anne Lister you will know that she was a real character - I think we are in for a very illuminating talk!!
Fun and Games
The Committee haven't yet decided what we will be doing yet but it could be a quiz, whist drive, beetle drive or who knows what we might come up with - but rest assured it will be a good evening!
FROM SHEEP TO SHAWL - Cynthia Thewlis
An introduction to fleeces and their preparation for knitting, weaving and rug-making. There will also be an opportunity for a small group to try their hands at spinning - could this be the start of another spin off Club for our WI?!
THE APOTHECARY'S APPRENTICE - Astrid Hansen
Astrid Hansen returns to give us one of her latest talks.
Thursday, 26th April
LOWER WHARFEDALE GROUP MEETING - hosted by Harden this year
LIFE IN THE 50's - Ian Dewhirst, MBE
Ian Dewhirst needs no further introduction! Please make a note that this meeting will start at 7pm and will be held in Cullingworth Methodist Church.
Saturday, 28th April
Our annual fundraiser - see our separate page.
THE STORY OF PEARLS - Robert Bolton
Following on from his fascinating talk about diamonds it is now the turn of Pearls to get a mention!
LIFE'S RICH TAPESTRY - Jill Robinson
Jill has written four comedy novels and it sounds as though we are going to have a very amusing evening listening to her talk which is based on her latest book.
This year it is our turn to host Bardsey cum Rigton WI but it has become a tradition that we do not divulge the subject of the evening beforehand. However, we can assure you that plans are well in hand for the evening! So, any Bardsey members who are having a little look at this page - you'll have to wait!! But we are looking forward to welcoming you all to Harden again!
ANYWHERE NICE? - Robert Waddington
We just had to ask Robert to come back and tell us about his latest adventures after hearing his hilarious tales last year of the family's holidays on the Isle of Eigg .
MAUD LEWIS - Patricia Atkinson
When Patricia came to talk to us about East Riddlesden Hall last year she gave me a long list of her talks. I asked her which she would recommend and she said the one about Maud Lewis always went down very well so I asked her "Who was/is Maud Lewis?" - "Aha", she said, "you'll have to wait and see!". So, there you have it - I can't tell you anything about this subject!!
BRADFORD'S MILLENIUM WAY, Part 1 - Robert Whitehead
Robert is beginning to become a permanent fixture in our programme, this being the third year running
we have invited him back. His talks on walks accompanied by slides are always full of fascinating information and we always discover so much we didn't know about our local area. As this is Part 1 it looks likely we might be asking for Part 2 at a later date!!
Monday, 3rd December
Annual Report followed by NOEL NOSTALGIA - Jenny Stacey
A talk and slides on what the Victorians handed down to us for Christmas.
