AN EVENING WITH JANE AUSTEN
Lyn-Marie Cunliffe gives an interview in costume on Jane Austen and her life. She lives not far from Harden so we are hopeful that if we have a spell of bad weather it will not prevent her from coming to talk to us!
Our annual evening of FUN AND GAMES - we might play dominoes, beetle, or some other game the committee come up with!
Robert Waddington makes another return to Harden WI with an amusing talk about his holidays. At the time of booking he wasn't sure which holiday he would be telling us about but I'm sure whatever he comes up with will be as good as ever.
SPRING MARKET - another regular annual event which is always very popular with the local people.
GEORGIANA, DUCHESS OF DEVONSHIRE
Pat Osborne, another speaker who is making a return visit to Harden WI, this time to tell us about the interesting life of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire.
LOWER WHARFEDALE GROUP MEETING
The meeting this year will be hosted by Pool in Wharfedale who have arranged for Maria Glott from Saltaire to talk to us. We can be sure of an excellent evening's entertainment from Maria.
Also, this evening, the BATON to celebrate the centenary of the Women's Institute that is making its way round all the WIs on its way to the AGM in the Albert Hall in 2015, will be coming to the meeting and will be passed round all the members.
IS IT UP OR IS IT DOWN?
Pam James is our speaker this evening and I haven't a clue what she is talking about; she gave me a list of her talks but wouldn't say what they were about so I thought the title sounded rather interesting! She comes highly recommended so I'm sure it will be a good evening.
THE PENDLE WAY
Robert Whitehead is becoming a regular speaker at our June meeting. We "walk" with him without getting out of our chairs but he is a great inspiration for us to do the walks he tells us about at a later date.
HARDEN CHILDREN'S GALA
Harden WI always have a Cake Stall at the gala, but you need to get there quickly if you want to buy a cake - we can never bake enough, they sell out very quickly!
Visit by Bardsey cum Rigton WI
We have a longstanding tradition of visiting each other every year and it is Bardsey's turn to visit us this year. We also have a tradition of not announcing what the entertainment will be beforehand so you will just have to come along and find out what we have planned!
We always have an outing during the Summer, this year we will be visiting Fairfax House in York.
HISTORY OF SCARVES AND MODERN SCARF-TYING TECHNIQUES
Chris Gilston and Pauline Gray from Gigi in Hemingbrough are doing a presentation of fashion accessories through the ages. Afterwards we will be shown how to tie scarves to transform a simple outfit into something special; I'm sure most people will find this demonstration very useful.
WORDS ON MUSIC
Mavis Dean is a retired singing teacher who also comes to us highly recommended with her talk about the art of singing. Could this sow the seeds for a Harden WI choir?!!
PLANTS TO DIE FOR, PLANTS THAT HAVE DIED AND PLANTS I WISHED HAD DIED!
Alan Wilson has been to us before several years ago so it is definitely time we had him back with one of his amusing talks on gardening.
ANNUAL REPORT followed by CHRISTMAS ENTERTAINMENT
Tricia Atkinson is coming along with Quizzes and Games to get us into the Christmas spirit.
