August Outing

Last week we had our annual August outing and this time 21 of us
headed over the border into Lancashire for a cruise along the Leeds Liverpool  canal at Foulridge.  We usually travel to our August outings by coach but as it  wasn't too far this year, we used our own transport to get there.  The sun was  shining for us yet again and we boarded our narrowboat at 11 am for the 1 1/2  hour cruise.  A delicious lunch of pie and peas was served at 11.15 which was a  little earlier than our usual time but even though some of us had only just  nicely finished our breakfast it didn't deter us from polishing off our plates!   It was a very relaxing way to spend a couple of hours drifing along past swans, ducks, cows, sheep, horses, etc,  and other  canal transport but all too soon we  were back at the warf.  As there was still plenty of the afternoon left and we were not too far from Boundary Mill several of us ended the outing with a little retail therapy!
A big thanks must go to Shelagh for organising  the outing for us - definitely not an easy task.!!

Visit to Bardsey WI

Many years ago Harden and Bardsey formed a "special relationship" - something to do with a darts match so I am told, but this was several years before I joined the WI.  But the outcome was that each year we take it in turns to to visit each other for a Summer meeting.  Last week it was our turn to visit Bardsey and what a lovely evening we had.  Bardsey is a village hidden away down some country lanes and I think this was probably the first time we all managed to find our way there at our first attempt!!  We were treated to a delicious supper of lasagne followed by lemon tart accompanied as you would expect by lots of chattering! And then the entertainment began.  The type of entertainment is usually a closely guarded secret and this year the curtains on the stage opened to reveal the setting for Cinderella but what followed wasn't the usual run of the mill pantomime but a spoof of the popular pantomime performed by some local actors.  So our thanks go once again to Bardsey for a throughly entertaining evening.
