Several of our members went to the Centennial Craft Fair in Harrogate. Scrabble Club and Craft Club had their regular fortnightly afternoon meetings. August tends to be a quiet month for WI activities.
3 of our members spent a few days at Denman College; two on a History and Heritage course visiting Bath and Bristol and one made a paper handbag out of magazine pages! Summer Outing - We visited Constable Burton Hall and Gardens, near Leyburn in North Yorkshire. The Walking Group enjoyed a 4 mile walk around the local area. Scrabble Club and Craft Club had their regular fortnightly afternoon meetings. Culture Club visited York Gate Gardens at Adel, nr Leeds. Monthly Meeting - The Cumbria Way - Robert Whitehead. We also presented a cheque to a representative of Hospice at Home, being a percentage of our proceeds from the Spring Market.
We organised the screening of the Centenary NFWI AGM at the Bingley Arts Centre. It was attended by several other WIs and was a huge success. We had our usual Cake Stall at the Harden Children's Gala. We held our annual Spring Market to raise funds - this year we supported the Hospice at Home charity. Culture Club - Cinema visit to see "A Little Chaos" The newly reformed Walking Group enjoyed a 4 mile walk around the local area. Scrabble Club and Craft Club had their regular fortnightly afternoon meetings. Several members attended the West Yorkshire Federation Annual Meeting. Lower Wharfedale Group Meeting hosted by Wilsden. The subject was Faberge - Jeweller to the Tsar by Anne Drake. Harden WI won the Tidyman Cup for the best decorated egg. Monthly Meeting - The Family Firm, 150 years on - Albert Pratt
Culture Club - Cinema visit to see "The Theory of Everything" We entered a team into the Federation Quiz and came joint SECOND!! Well done to the team!! We planted a Centenary Rose, "Inspiration", in the garden of St Saviour's Church in Harden to commemorate the WI centenary.
