This photo has recently come into my possession of our President, Gaye, standing proudly with the gold chocolate medal she was awarded at our Annual Meeting in December!! And very well deserved it is too. The amount of work she puts in to make sure everything runs smoothly is unbelievable!!

11 of us braved the wind and rain on Thursday evening to go to Steeton Flower Club's Christmas "extravaganza" at Skipton Town Hall. Carola Kean had travelled all the way from Hereford to give her demonstration entitled "From the Christmas Clutter". Yet again one of our members won an arrangement in the raffle and if you compare this photo to last year's you will see that it is the same person as well! Well done Jean! Proceeds from the evening went to Help for Heroes. PS I was at Jean's on Friday and the flowers looked amazing on her sideboard!!
The production of The Sound of Music at Bingley Little Theatre the other day was excellent. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Yesterday we were treated to another fascinating talk with slides from Robert Whitehead, this time on part of the Millennium Way. As this 45 mile walk passes through Harden we found it particularly interesting and discovered many things about our local area that none of us were aware of. He ended the talk on Keighley Moor and we are now going to have to wait until next June when he returns to tell us about the second part which culminates where it began at Shipley Glen.
Four of us spent the beginning of last week at Denman College on a course called "Discover and Enjoy your Voice" and Denman was as good as ever. I am pleased to say we all discovered that we had a voice and we really enjoyed using them with the other 7 ladies on our course! We only had one full day when we were learning to sing and on the final day we gave a little concert to the other courses that were there. At the end someone suggested we all sing Jersualem so we all gave a very rousing performance!
If you've never been to Denman, it is a wonderful experience and, even though a group of us went together, I would have no hesitation in going alone as everyone there is so friendly. Anyway, as a result of this course it looks like there might be a Singing Group being formed sometime ..... so keep watching this space!! Having been out of the country for nearly a month I have been trying to catch up with what has been going on in my absence.
It sounds like everyone has been busy planting daffodil bulbs around the trees on Wilsden Road in Harden to celebrate our 50th anniversary next year. Looking foward to seeing the first display next Spring. And still on the subject of our 50th anniversary, the Recipe Book has now been printed. Looking forward to trying them out. |
